Destruction and Closure of a Biobank

A specific biobank is given an end date in the approval, after which the material must be destroyed. In the event of new, changed or expanded use, a new application to REK must be submitted in due time before of the end of the project.

Destruction of material must be done properly and in accordance with approved procedures. All human biological material should be treated as risk waste.

It is not allowed to store or transfer material after the end date.

Closure of a specific biobank before the end date must be reported internally and approved by REK before destruction.

Closure of a general biobank must be reported internally and approved by the advisory board, and also approved by REK before destruction.
