Predatory Journals

The University of Oslo (UiO) has compiled an overview of the characteristics of predatory journals, with suggestions on how to avoid being fooled: Predatory Journals. Other ways of avoiding predatory journals are to check if the journal in which you want to publish is registered in the channel register of the Database for Statistics on Higher Education (DBH) at the Norwegian Centre for Research Data (NSD). If you do not find a specific publication channel in the DBH register, you can submit a proposal to NSD to add it. Another option to verify that the journal is a registered OA journal is the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).

It is important to be aware that publication in channels that are not approved through the channel register do not provide scientific credit or publication points for the institution, and do not appear in official publication lists. Articles forming part of PhD candidates’ degrees will normally not be approved by UiO if published in unapproved publishing channels.
